Tasty and pretty wedding cake.

Am looking for a wedding cake that will actually be served for dessert and thus must truly be tasty and not just a showpiece. That said, I would also like it to look nice (that's secondary though).

My fiance and I are not big fans of airy/whipped-creamy desserts (for example, unlike many people, we're not big fans of Dufflet's). Our favourite type of cake is a dense, moist, fudgy chocolate cake. We're thinking of having both chocolate and lemon (or something similar) options so that guests have a choice.

Based on these comments, does anyone have any suggestions?

More specifically, has anyone eaten/seen wedding cakes made by Dessert Trends, She Takes the Cake, and/or the Wedding Cake Shoppe?

Thanks!

  1. Dessert Trends makes stunning cakes that are also delicious. Sorry, I'm not familiar with your other two options.

There are a few places where you can order wedding cupcakes...they are tiers of cupcakes that are beautiful and yummy. There is also a plus side to having the ability to do chocolate, lemon and any other flavour. I have seen a few of these and they are really beautiful. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you off hand who made them but if you are interested I will make some calls to find out. I do remember that one of the places even donates some of the profit to charity....

The one that does weddings is Eini & Co. - http://www.eini.ca/

Their cupcakes are divine and beautiful as well! They are also just lovely people to deal with. You get the choice of donating to three funds, Sick Kids, an AIDS foundation and the Cancer Society. Please note though that their website shows that they are closed until July 23rd due to kitchen renovations.

Cupcakes are a great idea, and I love that Eini & Co. gives part of the proceeds to charity. However, I should have mentioned at the outset that my fiance has a thing against cupcakes (silly, but true).

    2. I also recommend dessert trends. They have delicious cakes, although I have not tried any chocolate cake. And they are great artists!! Stunning cakes!!

      1. I'd consider Flaky Tart on Mt. Pleasant, which just opened. They do wedding cakes that look very pretty. I've never tasted these cakes, but their regular baked goods are fabulous even though they are very simple things like tarts, brownies and cookies.

I didn't realize that they did wedding cakes. I've been meaning to check them out anyhow, as they're in my neighbourhood, so now I'll also make inquiries about wedding cakes there.

there's a photo gallery on their website; flakytart.com

        2. We used Shirley's Sweet Creations for our wedding and we got a lot of compliments on how yummy our cake was (we served it as dessert). Shirley will meet you at your house for a tasting (she brings you little pieces of cake to try) with different icing. She's really reasonable too, and our wedding cake was gorgeous!

          good luck!
