Hudson River Wedding 2009

  • 5

Hi All:

My finance and I are planning a May 2006 wedding. We are keeping the affair small with only 40/50 guests. I wanted to get married in a resturant (preferably) on the river, with a dinner following. I was really interested in the Harvest on The Hudson (it had amazing views), but they have a 100 person requirement for weddings, and Half Moon is currently not planning events as they just opened up. A few people had mentioned Stripped Bass or Sunset Cove in Tarrytown. I was hoping to get some suggestions of other venues on the that would offer a small wedding. Thanks!

  1. I know it's not on the Hudson, but I recently attended a wedding with about 60 people at Stone Barns Blue Hill and the food was wonderful - possibly the best wedding food we've ever had. The restaurant itself is quite beautiful - set on the Rockefeller estate not far from the Hudson. But it didnt' have a big dance floor and it wasn't entirely closed off from the rest of the wedding, so the wedding is more about the food & socializing socializing and less about a big raucous affair.

    1. Several years ago when our daughter announced she was engaged and wanted a Hudson-view wedding, we explored options and found several beautiful sites. Her fiancee remembered attending a wedding at the Mohonk Mountain House, we checked it out, and she had the most beautiful wedding there.

      1. There is a wonderful place near Rhinebeck, Terrapin Catering, that has beautiful views and incredible food. It is a fairly small venue and does only catering there. Their Restaurant is up the road in the Village of Rhinebeck.

        1. Hi: it would help to know how far north you want to go and whether you want to be located on the water. Both Mohonk and the Terrapin catering hall at Dinsmore Golf course, which have been mentioned, are lovely but do not have river views, and are not located on the water.

There is a new restaurant in Poughkeepsie called Shadows which is located right on the river and also in Newburgh there are a few places on the water.

Sounds like a restaurant tour in in order - that could be fun.

          1. Went to a wedding at Lyndhurst castle that was very nice. This is in the Tarrytown area neare the Tappen Zee bridge. The venue was beautiful.
