Lobster in Westchester?

Planning my 50th birthday, low key on an upcoming Tuesday. Besides perhaps enjoying a picnic with my spouse, and a round of bowling (secret thrill), I'd like to enjoy a well prepared lobster. We live in Northern Westchester, so that'd be great (Ocean House?), but will travel pending strong recommendations from Chowhound family. Many thanks!

    1. Sigh --- are there no lobster experts out there? Birthday's next week... thanks much!

Can't recommend a local restaurant for great lobster but...since our 4th of July party got cancelled, I decided to do lobsters in. I got 2 2.5 pound lobsters at Turco's, which they steamed perfectly and pre-cracked for me. I made a side of fresh pasta with soft shell crab sauce (easy Bittman recipe), and a salad. A bottle of good champagne completed the celebration. Please post if you find a great lobster out (I am not a fan of Ocean House, btw), Happy birthday!

There's always the Willet House in Portchester. For a splurge. Their lobsters are steakhouse oversized (so too the prices)... but very good. (If you do go, their Brule Cheesecake is unforgettable. Leaves Juniors in the dust.)

Ebb Tide close by also serves lobster, but not the setting for a celebration.

              • I wonder if the Fish Cellar or Contes in Mt. Kisco might do the trick, but I really don't know. I generally save my lobster consumption for vacations.

Happy birthday! I just had my 50th, too.

Nancy C, there are no good lobster places in Lower Westchester either.

Artie's Steak and Seafood is the best I've found. It's on City Island. A schlep for you, perhaps, but the food is good, the prices reasonable, and the service is just right.

                    • Haven't tried it yet, but friends did and said it was quite good and a bargain, Sante Fe Mexican in Tarrytown has a lobster special on Tues. nights, 1 1/4 lb. plus mussels or clams for $24.95. I've also had good lobster at Striped Bass also in Tarrytown and has a great setting on the Hudson. One more suggestion, Acquario Restaurant (Portugese) in White Plains, I've had excellent lobster there and it's also pretty reasonable, I think $18/lb, which includes rice/beans and veges.

I came on this board to mention Gus's in Harrison, a very casual place but one of the few I know of around here that sells simple lobster. Owlwoman, thank you for reminding me of Acquario - I have been there a few times and thought it quite good, not just for lobster.

                            1. re: pobo

yes, pobo, Gus' is great for Lob.

And Tuesday night is good... you'll get table. Weekends is worse that Spadaro. Like Yogi says "It's so crowded, no one goes there anymore"

                            2. Eastchester Fish Gourmet isnt too bad. Some of their other dishes are really fussy, but the lobster is pretty straighforward and prepared perfectly, IMO.

                                1. Haven't been there in a while, but the Striped Bass in Tarrytown usually has that on the menu.
