We'll be breezing through Portland on 4th of July; wondering if anyone knows of any good restaurants that will be open on America's birthday? I've tried several places (Paley's Place, Higgins) and they are all closed. Anyone know of a place that this East Coast foodie, dying for a good chow but on a tight schedule, could visit?

Last year both Carlyle and Andina were open on July 4th as was the restaurant at the Heathman. If Carlyle is open on the 4th, that's where I'd go, call 'em and ask: http://www.carlylerestaurant.com

Besides, it's away from the river and all the craziness down there due to the Blues Festival and the fireworks.

Not sure what you mean by "good", but they make their own yummy pastrami, pickles, bagels, etc.
Good luck!
