Pulcinella's Revisited

So, let me preface this review with a bit of background.

I first ate at this restaurant in January 2008. We enjoyed our lunch and I posted my comments along with some points of constructive criticism (mostly about the ambiance). One of the owners, Sam, contacted me for some clarity on my points. While I first thought this was a bit forward, but I always give credit to any business owner that cares enough to reach out to their clientele in an effort to improve their operation. I committed to Sam that I would be in again, unannounced, and give him my thoughts. So here we go...........................

My daughter (15 years old) and I, (age unimportant) arrived at about 7:30 after calling shortly before to see if there were tables available. When I called, we were assured there were open tables. When we arrived, a table was set for us which was a nice touch. We sat and were quickly brought menus and asked for a drink order. I ordered a bottle of Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc / Viognier Blend ($25) which was very fairly priced (and Vermont allows patrons to bring home unfinished wine making buying a bottle more feasible). We then ordered Calamari and Stuffed Squash blossoms as appetizers. Both were fresh and flavorful, the Calamari accented by a lemony aioli and the blossoms with a corn relish. Well done.

For entrees we ordered Eggplant Parmesan and I decided to let the kitchen decide for me based on the chef's advice. The result was a very nice seared Ahi Tuna over arugula and white beans dressed with balsamic and studded with pancetta. Both entrees were ample in portion size and flavorful (Egglant $17 with a side of fresh vegetables and $24 for the tuna).

My daughter enjoyed a trio of gelatos while I spoke with Sam and Kyla about their opertation noting some subtle yet well advised changes in the floor plan that made for better feel.

Overall, we had a great meal and the service was well paced and friendly. If you are in the mood a creative Italian meal, visit therr website at www.pulcinellasristorante.com or just stop by the restaurant on Dorset Street in South Burlington, VT (near EMS Sports and Barnes and Noble).
