Has anybody tried Original Brick Pizza in Cary?

klmonline Jun 28, 2008 08:25 AM

The paper mentioned a relatively new New York style pizza place on E Chatham St. in Cary. Any hound recommendations or warnings?

Yes! My friend and I went to try it out last week and it was great. The pizza tastes just like it does in NY. (i am originally from there) They also do something with their wings they call it char-grilled wings they are amazing. You should deffinatly go try it out!

I've not heard of it. We'll have to put it on the "to check out" list. Where on E. Chatham?

It's in the same shopping center as Udupi. In its last incarnation it was an Indian Pizza place.

Got it - I know exactly where that is. I didn't recall seeing the new place since I'm not in that particular neck of the woods too often. Thanks!

Yep, it looked interesting but I never tried it. Apparently not to many others did either as it wasn't in business too long.

I finally made it in last night and had one of the best pizzas I've had in this area. If this is true NYC pizza, then I am a fan. I forgot to ask for lite sauce and I'm glad I did. They make the dough and sauce in house.

We tried it tonight and got one of the pizza and wings specials. A mix of hot and medium spicy wings, and a half cheese/half pepperoni pie. I thought that the wings were excellent - crispy and flavorful and pretty darn addictive - but the pizza didn't blow me away. The crust was OK, but the pizza itself was way too greasy and I thought that the sauce didn't have much flavor. My NY-born and bred husband didn't rave about it either and still thinks that Brooklyn Boys makes a better pie. We did bring home the leftovers, so I'll see if it reheats any better than it was the first time around for lunch tomorrow.

I'm not sure. I don't recall that one and that's not a part of Cary that I frequent. Sorry!

It's in the same building as Udupi, close to Circus. It has been several things over the years.

We had one yesterday and I'd have to say that I agree with you. It had pepperoni on it and was very greasy, which made the center of the pie soggy. I like mild sauces which is probably why I liked theirs.

My S.O. and I tried this the other night. We were both disappointed. We tried a pepperoni and pineapple for one pizza and a margherita for the other. The sauce tasted like it had high fructose corn syrup in it and was thin and unimpressive. The amount of grease was simply overwhelming. The taste was simply not to our liking on either pizza. We also tried a couple of sides (not their specialties, but what the heck). My mozzarella cheese sticks were standard institutional bulk frozen, with a thick, underseasoned breading and low quality cheese. Low marks. Her side salad featured some iceberg lettuce in a clear plastic box. It was limp and past its prime. We saw no reason to go back.

Dining notes: Their focus is primarily takeout or quick by-the-slice. There are three formica booth tables inside and two or three outdoor tables on the sidewalk. They were playing 100.7 The River on the radio over the speaker system. I like the music, but I hate listening to blaring commercials while I eat.

Please avoid this place. We ordered take out Margherita pizza with mushrooms. The sauce was very thick and sweet, more like spaghetti sauce. Very odd taste for pizza sauce. There was hardly any poor quality cheese, and canned mushrooms (yuck). This is the first pizza we have ever thrown away, after only a few bites, from anywhere in the RTP area.

I found that it had bland pizza and salad from industrial ingredients, and won't be going back. Disappointed.
