I'm looking to go to brunch with my hubby on Sunday. Neighborhoody is preferable. South End, Cambridge, etc. Who has really great food?

  1. I've said it before, I'll say it again: Boston is weirdly brunch-deficient.

My wife and I currently have exactly three places in our American-style brunch rotation: Deluxe Town Diner in Watertown, Beacon Hill Bistro in Boston, and Eastern Standard in Boston.

If you don't mind brunch from a coffeehouse, both Crema Cafe in Harvard Square and Sherman Cafe have impressed me with their homemade English muffins and other baked goods. Haven't tried an egg sandwich from Crema, but Sherman's is superb.

Looks like my edit from yesterday didn't take:

If you haven't been to Sound Bites and/or Ball Square Cafe in Somerville, they're worth a try. Numerous people, hounds and non-hounds alike, swear by these spots, but they've never quite done it for me. As far as I'm concerned the food is perfectly acceptable, sometimes even good (especially anything with fresh fruit), but not worth waiting for in the massive lines that form every weekend.

If you are going to go to Coolidge Corner, you should try the brunch at Lineage. A little on the expensive side but you get free homemade breakfast breads and everything is great.
