Roti Hut - NE Calgary

Okay, I must say up front that I have no idea what any of the dishes I had at Roti Hut were supposed to taste like but they were GOOD! I work very near Roti Hut (108-920 36 Street NE) so I wanted to try it out. My SO and I stopped by there for a late lunch to go. I got a boneless chicken roti, an aloo pie with chickpeas and a double. I really liked the aloo pie and the chicken roti. The double was a bit bland as it was mostly potato. It could have used a sauce of some kind. Since this was my first try at roti, I did not know what sauces were available/needed. I will definitely ask next time. Our total bill for the food above plus two cokes was right at $20. We will definitely be back!

Okay, I am happy- thrilled in fact- to report that I cajoled Trini hubby to pick up some roti today and the verdict is pretty darn good- it's expensive for roti but so HUGE that it's not a bad deal, and the spice is, to my taste, perfect- we both got boneless chicken.

doubles should have no potato- are you perhaps talking about aloo pie as being mostly potato? Aloo=potato. Doubles are fried bread with curried chickpeas.

anyway- I have to go back, have not been since a poor experience way back in Aug 2000!

You might be right. The one that I thought was a double was deep fried & looked kind of like a southern fried pie. It had potato & was pretty bland. What I thought was the aloo pie had two pieces of yellow bread with curried chick peas in the middle (not fried). The only reason I thought that was the aloo pie was b/c it was quite spicy. The lady behind the counter told me that the aloo pie was spicy. Who knows. :)

All in all....it was all yummy!

You got them backwards :) but THANK YOU for the tip, we thought after Tropical Hot disappeared there were no aloo pies to be had in Calgary.
