So your only parameter is romantic? Personally I find scoring a Ko reservation as romantic as it gets, but since that would mean waiting until exacly a week before and then praying as hard as you can that its your lucky day, I would play it safe and go with Per Se.

If $$$ is not an issue I would say Jean-Georges, Le Bernardin or Per Se (over the top but friends just went for birthday dinner).

For more affordable places, I'd say you can't go wrong with any of these:

      The Place
      Allen and Delancey
      Il Buco

      Hope this helps!

I love The Place! Definitly romantic, and the lavender creme brulee is to die for!

Chantarelle is very romantic, the service is impeccable and of course the food is excellent.

Blue Hill at Stone Barns. Arrive early to roam the grounds.

le bern is lovely too, but i think bouley has a more comfortably romantic atmosphere, whereas le bern verges on the businessy.
