Party Favor cupcakes

Just had my first cupcake yesterday and they were delicious! I would have to say one of the best cupcakes I've had so far in Boston. And the best part? They were only 85 cents! I was going to skip getting the pretty ones with flowers on top because they were 1.75 but my daughter had to get one.

We left Brookline over 14 years ago, but my daughter still needs those cupcakes several times a year. I also have to traipse back there to get her birthday cake every year.

if you like the frosting (which i do), try the ones w/ the cream centers....they have colored frosting on top w/ little candy circles. so good!

We do like the frosting--and the filling. Hmmm. I suspect we'll have to go to Coolidge Corner next week. I can't imagine why. (I guess I'd better check to see whether our destinations are open beforehand.)

I was there yesterday and they are closed until at least July 11th.

I just don't like the temperature I get the cupcakes at, for one. I like my frosting creamy, not chilled to a firm layer. I also think their frosting tastes a bit cheap and sugary: I prefer the rich buttercream at Sweet.

I usually bring cupcakes home and have them for dessert after dinner, so I don't mind that they keep them chilled in the bakery. In fact, it makes it easier to transport them home safely. And we clearly differ in opinion on Party Favors' frosting - I quite like it and do not find it cheap-tasting at all. On the other hand, I eat it at room temperature. If you're eating a cupcake cold from the display case it's not going to be nearly as good.

I admit that haven't had a chance to sample the cupcakes at Sweet yet, and may well find them even tastier.

I tried a chocolate cupcake at Sweet two weeks ago and was not at all impressed. The cupcake itself was so dry that it adhered to the paper lining, and the frosting had very little flavor. For the price of a single Sweet cupcake, I could get a dozen of similar or better quality at a local supermarket.

I think i will ahve to give PF a second chance with a cupcake that's been allowed to come to room temp.

Not to argue since opinions are just that, but I've seen them make the butter cream and it's not cheaply done. Large quantity but not cheap. It is sweet and, of course, the decorations are very sweet.

They are magicians at cake decorating but they are also very expensive for custom work.

The speciality of the house is their butter cream frosting. It is special.

I really like their mini cupcakes because the smaller amount of frosting makes them less overwhelming. Their boston cream cupcakes are incredible too, but that's a beast of a dessert.

Agreed. IMO the best cupcake in the city.
Some people don't like the dense frosting, which I can understand. It's a bit overwhelming. I eat a stick of butter every day for breakfast, so I'm used to the richness.
