<content>What are the greatest price discrepancies in your wine buying past-to-the-present, that
is, if you could afford what is charged for similar items today? Mine:

Chateau Lafleur (Pomerol) 1971 and 1973: $3.99 (purchased from Surrey Liquors in NYC, Madison and 69th Street, long gone)

<content>Being extremely bored today, and figuring it might be a rare chance to actually provide something useful rather than ask questions, I decided to inflation-adjust these figures (using a handy web applet):

1970 Louis M. Martini Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon - $6.00 = $33.58
1970 Caymus Cabernet - $6.00 = $33.58
1970 Beaulieu Vineyards Georges de Latour Cabernet Sauvignon - $8.00 = $44.77
1970 Heithz "Martha's Vineyard" Cabernet Sauvignon - $12.50 = $69.96
1970 Ridge Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon - $15.00 = $83.95

1970 Taylor, Fladgate Vintage Porto - $12.00 = $67.16

1971 Chateau Petrus - $24.95 = $131.86
1970 Chateau Mouton Rothschild - $19.95 = $111.66
1970 Chateau Lynch Bages - $5.95 = $33.30

1971 Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches - $11.95 = $63.16
1961 Bouchard Beaune Greves 1er Cru "Vigne de l'Enfant Jesus" - $6.95 = $48.16

1970 Louis Roederer Cristal - $17.95 - $100.46
1966 Dom Perignon - $18.10 = $117.80
1966 Taitinger Comtes des Champagne - $19.25 - $125.29

Still some pretty huge increases, but at least not *quite* as depressing. </content>

      <content>Ahhhhh . . . typo. The Bouchard is a 19-SEVENTY-1, not a 19-SIXTY-1.

You want 1961's?

1961 Chateau Lafite - $4.50
1961 Chateau Latour - $3.75
1961 Chateau Haut Brion - $3.75

1967 Chateau d'Yquem - $37.50</content>

      <content>Thanks!
Adjusting for inflation in the US used to be unknown/unnecessary/ignored.
As we move now into inflationary / hiperinflationary times, better to keep it handy.
Can you post a link to the web applet?</content>

So that '67 d'Yquem is $237.19 in today's dollars. Interestingly, not terribly out of line with a few recent vintages I spot-checked. </content>
