Declancy's & Southern Cafe - really bad timing on my part?

Cindy Jun 26, 2008 08:08 AM

Maybe it's just me and bad timing, but every time I drive to/past Southern Cafe and Declancy's, they're closed. Has anyone been to either restaurant recently?

I am fearful for the fate of the S. Cafe; they have had a sign on the door saying "Closed for repairs" for awhile now...if that is gone, I believe they were closed on Sundays and maybe Mondays.

Does anyone know if the Cafe reopened after the work? I hope they get it together, truly fantastic place IMO.

DeClancy's, I've said my peace about them on here. but will suffice it now to say they did you a favor being closed.

The Southern Cafe has been closed since the beginning of April. Recently, it looks like someone broke in and ransacked it. I don't know what's going on but I do know that I really miss their fried chicken. Nellie's is the only close second I know of - their hours are exact and the last few times I've been there, service has been very nice and friendly.

Declancy's. . .um, my mom always said if you don't have anything nice to say. . .

okay. . one word: Sysco. :(

Really wondering what part of Declancy's menu you're suggesting is Syscofied or -esque?

I found their gravies to taste powdery . . like they were using bases and the fried fish to not be hand battered. . previously frozen and battered. . . sort of the stuff you can get from Sysco. . .which is too bad because some of the menu items are good. . but the wait and scattered service are not worth enduring when you end up eating what tastes like cafeteria food. .. not all of it, but the majority.
