Po or A Voce or somewhere else?

According to Zagat, Po is going to be cheaper than A Voce, and I suspect livelier? I like lively when I'm in NY. Also concerned about the chef having left A Voce.
Also does anyone know if I can get olive oil gelato to go from Otto? Last time I was in NYC the Otto gelato cart wasn't in Washington Square, or at least not when I was there.

  1. it would hard to be livelier than A Voce. It's impossible to hear in there up until about 10 p.m. The food hasn't been affected yet by the chef leaving.

    1. I'm not sure I'd go to A Voce now b/c of the chef change. Po is good, but I'd rather go to Babbo, Lupa, Apizz, or Peasant for lively Italian.
You can get carry out from Otto.

      1. Actually, I just heard from a friend that you can't get gelato to carry out at Otto, so I would call and double check. As for Po v. A Voce, Po will certainly not be the livelier one. I love Po, but its small and quiet, not lively. I agree that A Voce is not your best bet during a chef change so you may want to look into other options for lively Italian.

How odd that you can't get gelato to go from Otto because they do deliver pints if you're in the neighborhood.

It's been a year since I last tried it, but I've taken out individual portions of gelato on random weekend afternoons.

        2. I second the idea of Babbo, Lupa, or Peasant instead of both of those.

As for the Olive Oil Gelato - I spoke with the bartender in Otto recently asking about the cart and he said because of the construction they wouldn't have it this summer (or maybe starting in Sept/Oct like they did last year). He said it's tough to get a permit. I would call and ask about taking a pint to go!

          1. Po is definitely not what I would call a lively place, as it's very tiny with a very dark and simple atmosphere. Even so, Po is always great, and it's a pretty decent bang for the buck.
