New, cheap healthy in farragut square?

littlew1ng Jun 25, 2008 08:10 AM

i'm so bored of sandwiches and salads. breadline, cap grounds, juice joint, blah blah blah. been there done that on seemingly everything in this area! anything new around? hidden gems?

It doesn't get much healthier than sushi... I like Cafe Asia, it isn't new, but... There also is Wasabi which is newer, I have had some not so fresh sushi there though. And both have cheap sushi (I think the best deal is Cafe Asia's sushi lunch special).

What about El Chalan, not new but different, or Aroma for Indian (not necessarily healthy depending on what you get)? I like the salads at the Art Gallery Grille.

Some of my favorites there aren't really healthy like the cuban sandwich at Dicky's Custard or a meatball sub at Hiedi's, or chinese in the food court at 18th and I. But they are at least cheap and something new.

Also Baja Fresh would probably have a few healthier options if you choose wisely:

KT I've heard great things about the Chinese at 18 & I - just order off the non-haoli menu. SO brought home the absolute best hot & sour soup I've ever had.

It's really good. It's all faux meat but it's really convincing; especially the spicy chicken (I'm not a vegetarian) which I usually get on top of a salad. Also the green soup is delicious (I know it's not really soup weather right now...). Enjoy and go a few times so you can try a bunch of things. The staff is very helpful!

Last month, Java Green said they were about to switch to an all-raw menu, so it might get a little dicey

According to their website, they are going all organic and adding more raw foods, but not 100% raw.
