I drove by today and the windows were covered in paper and there was a simple sign in the window saying they were closed, what's up with that ? Are they closed for good or are they renovating ? Anyone know anything ??

Excellent! Waiter service is a waste of money and service is in generally slower because of that as well.

I haven't stepped foot in there in 2 years. I'm surprised it too so long.

Carlos and Gaby's is moving from Rockaway Tpk to the Dougies location

oh Just curious.....dont want this to turn into another Grill point situation. Whenever places move or open up, nothing ever seems to go smoothly.

btw, is Grillpoint in Cedarhurst under the 5 towns vaad?

I walked by Grill Point on their 1st night open (last week). My husband and I had a good laugh when we saw that the Vaad certificate expires June 30, 2008. Maybe they applied before their anticipated opening in October, or maybe it's a trial run.

was it theVaad of Queens or the 5 towns Vaad?

That info is usually readily available on Shamash.

the record on Shamash is from 2/18/2008 and says the Vaad of Queens but considering they didn't open till last week I wonder how accurate that is.

Grill Point in Cedarhurst is under the Vaad of the Five Towns. As far as I've seen, all of the Vaad of the Five Towns certificates expire on June 30, 2008

thank you. I was really wondering about this and I suspect it might have been part of the delay in their opening

thanks. I suspect part of the delay in opening was due to who was going to be the "vaad"

Can you be under the Vaad of Queens only? or do you have to be under both?

ask the previous owners of Gourmet Galtt what happened to their 5 towns vaad permit when they attempted to bring in a 2nd rabbinical supervision

Dosen't Chap-a-Nosh have the Vaad and Rabbi Reisman?

King David deli is also under (or shortly will be) Rabbi Reisman.in addition to the 5 towns vaad too. I don't think the 5 towns vaad has a problem with Rabbi Reisman being involved as he's actually more machmir than the 5 towns vaad

Is Carlos and Gabby's going to have waiter service. If they do, they may not get as many customers because this will add additional cost to their food. Without waiter service, they can compete with Yossi's Grill where there is overlap (hot dogs, burgers, etc.). They also have to keep the new place a lot cleaner than their current place to get more business.

I sure hope not! This waiter service nonsense for what is basically a fast food place is ridicules. I do not go to Grill Point because I saw that they are waiter service. The same thing with K Roasters - they started out without waiter service then they introduced it. Burger Bar does nice business without waiter service as does Yossi's Grill.
