Sat Lunch in White Plains

rkaene Jun 24, 2008 06:00 AM

Any suggestions for a post high school graduation lunch ( about 3:30) near the County Center? We have a group of 6, and would like a place that we can make a reservation. Thanks!

Laguna on Post Rd is good for groups, family style. Eggplant Rolatini and fried zucchini are great.

Is the Bengal Tiger still alive? It used to have reasonable prices and food for weekend/weekday buffet lunches, if you care for Indian.

Nikos is a small greek restaurant - it's okay foodwise but unless everyone likes greek food you are better off going to a nice italian restaurant like buen amici or la bocca. i think more people like italian food then greek

rkaene, there's also Sam's of Gedney Way.

            Or Graziella's, for Italian.

We have been to Nickos and tought it was okay. City Limits does not take reservations. We are really flexable about type and $. My 9 year old is a jr. chowhounder, we have italian all of the time, and probably want something different.

Sunset Grill on Gedney way - upscale mexican....Blue on Church Street - Legal Seafood

Aberdeen has great authentic Chinese on Barker St (in Residence Inn). I agree Blue is very nice, sort of chi-chi new American with Asian fusion touches and modern decor. Similar in feel is Peniche, a modern tapas joint, not sure if either place is open for lunch on weekends though. Legal Seafood is always reliable and a nice setting.

One of my most favorite restaurants in Westchester is very near the county Center in WP. Miko's is a small Greek restaurant that has great food, nice service and is inexpensive. Its on Central Avenue about 1/4 mile south of the County Center. Even if Greek is not your thing give it a try.

foodie, if you mean Nikos, do a search on Nikos here -- it doesn't come off too well.

Hmm -- I did see the recent negative/mixed comments about Niko's but I went there a week ago and had the same high quality experience I have had in the past.
I think a few of us should meet there for lunch this summer and sort it out...

Niko's is ok, its simple and fresh but nothing amazing, sort of like Greek comfort or diner food. Buon Amici is a good value family-style Italian place with friendly service (and much better at its price point than the bland chain Zanaro's). City Limits Diner is a safe bet as well, a New American style menu that includes something for everybody. The execution can be hit or miss sometimes, but is reliable overall.

Sam's of Gedney Way is sort of bland old-style American eats, like what was popular 20 years ago at hotels. I find it sort of overpriced and dull foodwise for what it is. But the setting is pleasant enough. Sunset Grille is slightly upscale Mexican next door which has tasty food and drinks but is somewhat pricey (and some reviews here have reported recent service issues which I haven't personally experienced.)

If you like ethnic food there are many decent options as well, but not sure by your original post what type of food or price range you were looking for.

I have eaten at Niko's probably 10 times and had 10 positive experiences. The place is consistently good in all aspects- food, service and value. Are they creating culinary masterpieces- of course not. There is not many quality restaurants in Westchester and this place is near the top in what they deliver. I understand that everyone fancies him/herself a critic, which is fine as we are all welcome to our opinion.

Buon Amici on the corner of Route 100 by the county center or in white plains on church street la bocca. both good.
