We are coming from downtown, so mainly looking for a place in the near vicinity to have a few drinks and some tasty, pre-game nosh. Maybe some good Chinese food? Or somewhere cool in Echo Park? I suggested the Red Lion, but that was ruled out. Mexican food is sort of my last resort on this one (I have it a ton).

McCormick's in downtown for a good happy hour
My personal favorite is Sushi Gen. Have some good sushi, but you are not too stuffed to eat a few snacks at the game.

One of my favorite places anywhere, anytime--Philippe's, or, very close to Dodger Stadium, Pizza Buona at 2100 W. Sunset at the northwest (?) corner of Alvarado. I haven't eaten there yet but I will soon. It's been there for years.

I usually just do Philippe's too. With the free shuttle service they're going to start at the end of July, Philippe's becomes really convenient.

Anyway, if you want Echo Park, you could try some of the new places that are springing up.

There's a new restaurant called The Park on Sunset in Echo Park that is literally walking distance from the stadium. The food is great and the place is very affordable. The only issue is that it's BYO.

The Park
1400 Sunset Blvd
LA CA 90026
213 482 9209

There's also a place called 15 on Echo Park Ave which is a bit more upscale and has a full bar. Either place would be convenient for a pre-game dinner, although I'm not sure what time you plan on arriving at the Stadium.

Another vote for Phillipes. Not sure if they sell booze though. Or, maybe an izakaya in Little Tokyo for quick eats/drinks (Izayoi? Haru Ulala?), just a stone's throw from Chinatown/Dodgers Stadium.

I know this is chowhound and all, but I say save the food for cracker jacks, dodger dogs, and Nestle Toll House ice cream sandwiches. If you've got pre-game time on your hands, hit up Tiki-Ti in Silverlake for drinks you can't find at Dodger Stadium or just about anywhere else on this continent.
