Had a great evening at Escoba in Calgary!
We went out with another couple on Saturday night and ended up at Escoba, because some of the 'hotter' locations were too booked up to give us a parent-friendly reservation time. The restaurant reopened a few months ago at a new (above-ground) location (624 8th Avenue SW) and apparently nobody has found it yet, because it was pretty quiet. But we felt it was excellent!
We all like good food and wine and were all very happy with our choices. The tapas dishes were delicious and the entrees were very nicely prepared and also very generous. My ahi tuna was twice as much tuna as I would have expected and our friend's rack of lamb was an entire rack. Service was excellent and they have a great wine list. it's also a very attractive setting, nicely renovated and decorated.
Our friends go to all the best restaurants in town and said they thought it was every bit as good as those.
4 tapas (generally 6 pieces of everything or in the case of the baked camembert, a whole small round and a small loaf of bread), some extra bread for the yummy sauces, 4 very generous entrees, 2 bottles of wine and a couple of cappucinos ran us $290.
So if you haven't been and are looking for a new experience, we recommend it.

Did you notice if the Tiger Rose pasta is still on the menu? It has dijon and sundried tomatoes, and is one of my all-time faves for pasta in town.

We went a month ago for my birthday and did their tasting menu plus wine pairing. It was a fabulous meal and excellent service. I am sorry I can't remember what each course was, but the dessert was a rice pudding/risotto done with melted vanilla ice cream as the liquid. Best dessert I've had in years! We've gone a couple of times since for appies or fondue and have always found the food and service excellent.
