Tamalii - A brief review
Wanted to post a quick review of Tamalii, a new BYOB spot in Logan Square. Tamalii is owned by the folks from Maize in Humboldt Park. The restaurant is tiny, with maybe 10 tables. The decor is sparse as they are focused on the food. The menu has all sorts of Mexican street food, but their specialty is, of course, tamales. The tamales come two to an order. We tried several versions, including the pork, chorizo, el pastor, and fresh corn types. I most likely would not order the chorizo version again as the texture was strange, but all others were great, especially the fresh corn tamale of which we ordered another round. The fresh waters are great too, we had the lemon-lime.
All-in-all, I would say that this is a great weeknight or Sunday night stop. Good food in a simple setting. By the way, it is cash only, so be sure to hit the ATM before going.
