My husband and I will be in San Antonio in advance of a conference for him. When his co-workers arrive on Sat we would like to all go out for dinner. We are staying at the St Anthony. Great food is the object-reservations a bonus. Prefer to be able to taste what San Antonio is all about without spending a fortune (schoolteachers!). TIA

I suggest Boudro's. They do take reservations, and their food is superb. It is not, however, Tex-Mex. If you can handle the weather, ask for outdoor seating along the Riverwalk and order the guacamole appetizer. It's prepared tableside. For entrees, their menu contains enough variety so that everyone should be happily accommodated within his/her budget.

I second Boudro's! That place just feels like a vacation ... the food and service have been really great when we've gone (many times). It just doesn't seem like any place else.

Most recently, I enjoyed a "steakhouse" type of meal and every element was excellent. The tenderloin was a perfect medium rare and the vinagrette on the salad made the vegetables pop with flavor... It could have been my mood, I suppose, but this place makes me feel that good.

I did read something somewhere about there menu changing within the past year. Does anyone remember that? Interior Mexican, perhaps.

Thanks for the advice. I will try and get a reservation.

This is going to sound ridiculous, but for a fun (if a bit generic) edible experience, Sea World has the hospitality house. They give you free tastings of lots of different Anheuser-Busch beers, along with cheese, chocolate and grapes. If you play your cards right, you can get pretty sauced and enjoy some smoked Gouda....All for free!
