Old Homestead still any good?
Well I am having my usual steak craving and its been a few weeks since I have been to a steakhouse. Just want to go to one either tomorrow night or one day this week alone. Never been to the OH so I was thinking I should give it a try since it was once an institution and I have always wanted to try their Gotham Rib Steak. Heard some negative reviews over the past few years but is it still any good?
Other options are the Primehouse which is the new steakhouse in the Murray Hill area or perhaps Porterhouse NY. Not sure where yet but I am just craving a good old rare steak with a charred crust!

Haven't been in a long time, but I don't remember it being anything out of the ordinary. Granted, I didn't have the Gotham cut.
I liked PorterHouse very much, would recommend it.
Haven't tried Primehouse, but have heard good things.
Not sure if that was helpful....
I ate at the Old Homestead in Atlantic City last month, I would imagine the food would be pretty much the same. The Gotham Rib Steak was great and definitely in my top 5 best steaks. Unfortunately, the apps and sides were very lackluster, especially considering the prices of them were more than normal high end steakhouses.
If you are going, I would just get the rib steak (its huge) and maybe get a salad and you should be fine. Definitely go for it.
Porterhouse is excellent, primehouse average and Old Homestead is hit & miss over the last few times I've been. The most recent visit to OH was one of the most memorable steaks I've ever had - perfect cut & seasoned - I think it's worth the risk to visit at least once.
Wolfgangs (murray hill location) is where I go back to for a consistently great steak.
re: Spends Rent on Food
Yeah I definitely want to try all of them. Probably will give OH a go since it is closest out of these to my office. Prime House I have heard is really good but I think I will save that for when I am with a group since it seems to be more for ambience. Wolfgangs is also on my list to try, however I am weary about the Luger clones. I am a Luger purist and I do not think anyone can duplicate them. But I have heard great things about their ribeye.
I am just looking for a nice traditional steakhouse meal for one. I think OH fits the bill. Porterhouse is still a possibility though. I think I have narrowed it down to these two.
