lunch spot near Mall

Hubby and I will be doing the touristy thing on Tuesday after Labor Day....plan to start @ Capital and work our way down the mall. I'm a bit of a foodie and would like a good place to have lunch and maybe a relaxing cocktail?
Also, looking for somewhere in Arlingtion to have dinner?

An interesting, inexpensive choice would be Teaism, near the Archives Metro. www.teaism.com -- no cocktails, though. For dinner in Arlington, I've heard great things about Cafe Pizzaiolo -- I haven't been yet, but it's on my radar screen.

For lunch- if you don't mind spending a little bit more, but not an outrageous amount really, you could get a reservation for Central (lunch might be a little easier, but definitely book well in advance). It is the bistro of one of DC's best chef's Michel Richard, who also has Citronelle, and has even won a few awards as of late. The food is creative and inspiring, and well worth the price tag. There are threads on it if you search if you want reviews. You could get a very nice meal for a foodie and a good cocktail. I think for the quality of the food it is one of the best deals in the city, and it is only a few blocks from the mall. I don't think they are open for weekend lunch, but weekday lunch they normally are.

Another option would be 701. It is also very close to the mall, will have an excellent cocktail selection. I haven't been recently, but the Washington Post food critic recently did a write up of the small plates at the bar and said they were very good. I only have had dinner there once, but it was very nice. Maybe others can comment with a more recent experience? Or maybe if you search it will come up.

For dinner in Arlington I suggest Tallula which is a casual- upscale restaurant which is really good, and has a great wine list which is very affordable and makes good cocktails too, it is one of my Arlington favorites. Their sticky toffee pudding is a craving of mine now.

Other Arlington suggestions would be: Sette Bello- they have some nice pastas and they normally have a braised lamb or veal shank with risotto that is really good.

Also in another part of Arlington in Shirlington Carlyle Grand is really nice. It is part of a regional chain here called the Great American Restaurant Group, but it is an excellent chain and all of their restaurants have a really good reputation.

Also Grand Cru Wine Bar in Ballston so far has been really good the past two times I have gone, it is a little hidden in an inner courtyard, but really good, and again has great wine selection and some good beers.

This seems to be my day to say over and over MITSITAM. It is the cafeteria in the National Museum of the American Indian. Good quality, interesting native foods from all over the Western Hemisphere. Good prices. Awful crowds at this time of year, so plan to go early or late.
