Fish & Chips/Awesome Tea Room
I saw previous post re: F&C and had to comment. It's a road trip, but well worth the gasoline. It's a tearoom on a county road off IH-35 just before San Antonio city limits (At Garden Ridge Pottery exit). It's owned by two sisters from England. I have been 4 times for "high tea" and it was AWESOME. The husband of one of my dining companions is from England and he says the Fish & Chips (cod) is to die for. I just went on website and there are two customer feedback from Brits that say the same. It's Bawdsey Manor.
The other nice thing, other than the charm of this tearoom, is that it is in a "village" of quaint little shops where you can stroll around after your meal.
As for the tea. The high tea I believe was $25 each for a group of 12. They bring out bottomless pots of hot tea and then the sandwiches are brought out on tiered trays, garnished with strawberries, canteloupe, grapes, etc. After finishing tea sandwiches then the desert tiered plates are brought out. Scones with devonshire cream, chocolate cake, cookies and more. It's fantastic. Last time I was with group of 6 and we had Low Tea which is served on regular individual plates. One plate of sandwiches and fruit for one person and then dessert plate for one. Price I think about $12, but not sure.
I highly recommend this and shopping was nice. If you are a large group such as Red Hatters, please call for reservations. This is in an old house and multi dining rooms are small.

Thank's so much for this post. I've been scanning the Austin boards for awhile now looking for a good place to have high tea. I'm so glad that it didn't get pulled from the board. I wrote a post about "Bohanan's" in San Antonio that was deleted because it wasn't in the Austin area. Looking forward to a trip to Bawdsey Manor!
