Steamed Crabs - Today

oceans Jun 22, 2008 06:37 AM

Ok, I should not have waited until the last minute. But, we are driving back to New Jersey today from Washington, DC, along route 95 through Maryland. Can anyone suggest someplace to stop for Maryland crabs, steamed, softshell, anything casual, that is not too far out of the way? I know about Crabby Dick's but prefer to stay out of Baltimore itself and would like to try someplace new. Thank you.

Thankfully, Crabby Dicks is no more. Not sure where to suggest, but in Federal Hill, Nicks is open on Sunday. It is at the end off Cross Street Market which is right off 95.

Nick's Fish House is owned by the same people who own Nick's in Cross St. Market. It's right on the water just off 95. Not the best crabs but a nice setting for good food. nicksfishhouse.com

If you take the Eastern Ave exit north of Baltimore off of I-95, it's not too far to Mr. Bill's Terrace Inn, which is highly recommended by local 'hounds here. Honestly, I'm not sure if they are open on Sunday, but if they are, you should be prepared to wait in the bar, watch tv, or play some pool.

Bill's Opens at 4pm today. No reservations. If you don't get there when it opens or soon after, expect a wait. Like all good things, it's worth the wait. Easy to get to off 95.

I had steamed crabs at Costa's in Dundalk Maryland once. We had a really good time and everything was good and we spent a lot of money.

Just an FYI for everyone, we got crabs on Sat from Bill's in Perry Hall. $36/doz and they were really decent size. Cheap I thought. We paid $45 for mediums at Wet Willys a week ago and they weren't this big.

Thanks everyone. We found Wet Willie's and the crabs and music were great.

Edgewood-Rt 40 (Pulaski Hwy) towards Bel Air just before rt 24, on the right hand side. Buffett inspired crab place but they have apps and burgers too. One of my fav places.

Thanks. It's not the kind of place where they play Margaritaville on some sort of endless loop, is it? ;-)

I have friends that go there once in a while and they make it sound like it's that kinda place.

I'm totally biased, I'm a huge Buffett fan. They play alot of his music, Bob Marley, etc. but it's in the background and last time they had the Orioles game on too.

One can't go wrong with Bill's Seafood in any aspect. Always fresh. Being a cheapskate, I almost always get the cold crabs if they have them. At $10 or $12 a dozen, how can you go wrong?
