To Hyang - great Korean value (2nd and Geary)
This place is only a couple of weeks old, I think. I stopped in today for an early dinner.
As it was in the 80s today in the city, I decided to try their Mul Naengmyun. The broth is very tasty and the noodles chewy without being too undercooked. They give you a scissors to cut the noodles because they tend to be very long. Comes with some julienned cucumber and a few pieces of radish, along with a few slices of beef and a hard boiled egg. This dish was perfect for the weather and somehow the ice does not water down the taste of the soup significantly. Maybe they reduce it a bit before adding ice.
Banchan limited but good: kimchi, radish kimchi, greens resembling goma-ae but fishier in taste and less bright green in color, and what I think was marinated shredded radish.
Their hours are slightly crazy. They are currently open till 3 AM Thursday-Saturday and also claim to be open serving beef bone soups for breakfast (not sure which days). Can this possibly last? If I lived in the neighborhood this would definitely be a regular stop late at night.
Service is friendly. Atmosphere is very casual but not divey.
Meat entrees range from $10-19 (except for the kalbi, which is $25). Those are the dinner prices; there are also a few entrees served in lunch combos for about half those prices. Would come back to try the ojinguh ($11) and the grilled mackerel ($10).
Beverages: Looks like beer and soju, probably wine. I didn't look over the beer very carefully - they have Hite and I'm assuming OB, not sure if they have non-Korean beers.
