Hot Fudge Sundae - SD County
My sweetie has been craving a hot fudge sundae for days and this weekend seems to be the right moment to succumb and indulge. Now where? Where to go for a down home, old fashioned, delicious hot fudge sundae? We live in north county but will travel for the best (house made ice cream and house made fudge).
Happy Summer Solstice Chow Pals!

re: phee
Ghirardelli sundaes are indeed pretty good but the ice cream is not made on the premises. I was there having dessert one time and saw them carrying out a huge container of Dreyers from the back. Not that there's anything wrong with Dreyers, its my favorite store bought brand, but just an FYI since the OP was looking for homemade ice cream.

Housemade fudge AND ice cream is a pretty tall order - I would say Extraordinary Desserts in Little Italy (they don't serve it at the Hillcrest store) - or possibly Ghirardelli in the Gaslamp Quarter. I've also got a really good hot fudge recipe, adapted from Boulevard in San Francisco if you feel like making your own - it's super quick. And with some salted peanuts and homemade whipped cream - look out! http://aliceqfoodie.blogspot.com/2006...
