West Orlando recommendations?

Any good independent restaurant recommendations for the Ocoee, Winter Garden, and Clermont areas? Something with high-quality food and a good wine list...

The only one I can think of is The Chef's Table. It's a sweet little spot in the Edgewater Hotel in Winter Garden. Prix fixe, reasonable prices, good food, service and wine.

On Silver Star at Clarke Road is a small, independent Italian restaurant called: Trattoria D'Urbino. The food is excellent, the service great, and the owner is there most nights. The wine list leaves something to be desired, but the restaurant is new enough, and the owner kind enough: that if you ask that they stock certain wines for your use: I think he would do so.

My family and I have not ordered a dish that we have not enjoyed. It is not the usual US/Italian type food, but has an authentic flare. The atmosphere is small town/personal service oriented. The decor is also very well done. Give it a try, I would love to see what you think.

      Here is the restaurant info:

I'll definitely try this place out.

In Clermont there is a place called "The Vue" located on Highway 50 near the Harley Davidson motorcycle place, It's a more tapas style restaurant and lounge, but they do have a dress code and it is only open Wed - Sun evenings I think. I haven't been but have heard some good things about it.

Also for high quality food, I think Red Wing Cafe in Groveland qualifies for their dinner menu. The do a lot of game dishes. They bill themselves as "Redneck Gourmet". An abyssmal wine list, but I think they would let you bring something in.

Was in the Red Wing last night. They do have a more extensive wine list than I recalled. About 40 bottles in the low to mid price range. Link above is Scott Joesephs review this past weekend.

i second that the food at the Red Wing is great. I was their Sunday night. Had a Buffalo Ribeye. It was outstanding. They had entertainment and it was really good. They also have a really nice wine list. We ordered several bottles.

I've heard of the Vue, but a friend told me that it had no view at all, and they allowed smoking... not my idea of fun.

Maybe not as nice as what you're looking for, but I sometimes make the drive to Winter Garden for Choctaw Willie's bbq.

Yep, been closed for awhile, there is now a pretty good Thai Restaurant in the space. Winter Garden is getting quite a few good eating spots these days, there is a French bakery down town that opened about 3 months ago that is quite good. Now they have The Chefs Table at Edgewater Hotel as was well.... Mooncriket which is also downtown supposedly has excellent hamburgers...

Anyone know about Matthews Steaks in Ocoee?

Matthew's Steaks in Ocoee is good. It specializes in marinated German-style steaks. Those are small, so I prefer a bigger regular steak instead. Simple, not cheap (but less expensive than the big-name steakhouses), attentive service, down to earth. They make their own sour cream, so probably do a bunch of other items from scratch too. I'd recommend it.

Cafe Poisitano (sp?) on W. Colonial has great Italian food! And they offer half portions (which are still quite large!)
