Downtown Phx Sunday w/Veg

Am trying to help for a girls night out (George Michael). Looking at most of the downtown threads, a big number of the places aren't open Sundays. Also looking for a place that has good vegetarian options.

Looking for..

-Someplace kind of nice
-Downtown - jumping off point to hit the theater
-Open Sunday
-Can eat early before an 8 am show
-Someplace with good vegetarian options (1 of the 4 is)

Think the open Sunday & vegetarian support might be the tough one.

Just hoping someone out there might happen to have a spot that fits.

Thanks!!!!!

Chris

  1. Given the group and the criteria, Cheuvront would be my first choice--Sunday hours, downtown, nice place to relax with friends, and a variety of veggie options.

Sierra Bonita Grill *might* work. It's more mid-town than downtown, and the menu is fairly meat-centric; however, they have a decent array of hearty appetizers (Green Chile Mac N’ Cheese [excellent], green corn tamales [very good], guac [very good], mini-quesadillas) that could be teamed with a salad to make up a satisfying vegetarian meal.

Zest (also not downtown) has a few veggie options that might meet your friend's needs but I don't have any first-hand experience with the place.

    Hope this helps.

Edit: Poop. I mistakenly put in the place link for Sierra Bonita's sister restaurant (Phoenix City Grille). Correct place link to follow...

    1. re: hohokam

Thanks hohokam and I was totally thinking Cheuvront but they are closed on Sundays from May through August. I just called in earlier today. : (

Of the ones I've been researching....

      Closed on Sunday:

      vincents
      voltaire
      portland's
      chevraunt
      coronado cafe
      cibo
      stoudemires
      coup des tartes
      fate
      bar bianco
      lisa g

      Didn't see many veggie options:

      durants
      avanti
      kinkaids
zest - couple apps but didn't see any entrees really (btw, love their website)
      richardson's

Possibles (none of which I've been to)...

      fez
      wild thaiger
      ticoz
barrio cafe - worried it might be tough to get in though
      my florist cafe

I will go check out Sierra Bonita Grill.

      Thanks!

      Chris

      1. re: ccl1111

Oops. I forgot about Cheuvront going to a summer schedule. Maybe I should actually read those e-mails they send me. ;-)

Ticoz and My Florist are on my personal no-go list, but others seem to like them. I ate at Wild Thaiger once a few years ago but have almost no memory of the food.

Sundays are tough in this town.

        1. re: hohokam

Yeah that was a major bummer. Looking at their website, I can't believe we haven't been there. Cheuvront looks great! The even have one of my new favorite cheeses listed at the top of their cheese menu (Brillat Savarin - had for the first time yesterday).

    2. Correct place link here...

      1. Within walking distance of the US Airways Center and open Sunday:

Sam's Cafe -- southwestern @ AZ Center. It's no Richardson's or Barrio Cafe, but it's perfectly good for a pre-event meal and has several veggie items on the menu

1130 -- another place @ the AZ Center from the same people who run Sam's Cafe. I've not been there yet, but have heard mildly favorable reviews. Also has several meatless items on the menu.

Thai Elephant -- all the curries, stir fries, and noodle dishes can be made with tofu or just veggies.

        1. Is Carly's on Roosevelt open on Sundays?

          1. re: misohungrychewlow

Yes, Carly's is open seven days a week. It's a bit far to walk in 110-degree heat, but might work as a stop on the way. There are certainly many vegetarian options there.
