Breakfast en route to Mohegan Sun

Are there any worthwhile breakfast places in MA or CT on the way to Mohegan Sun from Boston via the Mass Pike? Looking for something that's fairly close to or easy to reach from a highway exit.

I like Old Tymes in Norwich. Never tried the buffet at Mohegan Sun.

I really like the buffet. I eat there at least once a month. If you have the breakfast club card, it's only about $6 per person, and the food is really not bad for foodservice type stuff. Omelettes, eggs, and pancakes made to order, very clean buffet stations, friendly servers, what more could you ask for? If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd probably be there every day.

I'd leave a bit early and give it a try. Unless you go on a Sunday morning, it's never that long of a line. Sunday's I'd suggest getting there before 9am or you'll be in line for about 10 minutes or more.

          • Charlene's diner in Jewett City (395 exit 84) is a pretty good bet and no more than a mile out of your way. Just take a right on rt 12 and watch for it on the right.

              1. Zip's Diner in Dayville, CT is a real-deal O'Mahoney-manufactured '50s diner with standard diner breakfasts, comfortable booths w/jukeboxes, and great service. If driving from Boston, take exit 93, go left at the end of the ramp & Zip's'll be about 200 yards further, on the right. [There's a huge neon "EAT" sign above the place--hard to miss.]

                  1. I know Carl's Diner, in Oxford, MA (right off 395) has mixed reviews, but it is what it is. Fast food, fast services, and lots of it. Outside of that, I'd stick with the Mohegan breakfast buffet. It's one of the best I've ever been to. Try the fresh omeletts to order. Fresh fruit is wonderful and you won't get that at most diners. Have fun!!!
