Pre-theatre dinner around W52 street and 8th Ave

Hello everyone

Please can you advise me about reasonable restaurants around W52nd Street and 8th Ave? It would be for pre-theatre dinner for 4 people (including one 11 year old). Italian or American food would be great. We are coming from England and need some guidance!!

Many thanks,

  1. Hello Amanda, welcome to the US. I am not 100% certain of the location but you can try Maria Pia for Italian. They have a prix-fixe dinner menu.(I think it is 50th or 51st between 8th and Broadway). There are some great, affordable places on 9th Avenue. I highly recommend Bali Nusa Indah (between 45th and 46th Streets on 9th Avenue). Excellent Indonesian, very affordable. Uncle Nick's on 9th Avenue (I think between 50th Street on 9th) has excellent Greek food. You will get many replies and guidance from other posters here. Enjoy your trip.

    1. Becco is great (46th between 8th and 9th) and has an all you can eat pasta special for around $20. I agree with Maria Pia, as well.

Thanks, Stephaniec25---is there any vegetarian option at Becco? Also, I forgot to suggest to Amandajj Havana Central (this is not near 8th, it is on W 46th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues). They are very inexpensive and have great drink specials. Fun atmosphere. And, Saigon 48 on W 48th between 8th and Broadway is also a good option.

      2. Hey, Amanda,

I strongly suggest that you avoid Becco. The pastas on the ayce are mediocre, seating is sardine-tight, and the noise level is so hideously high that normal conversation is impossible. There is far super Italian food with much more comfortable ambiance to be had in the Theater District.

Trattoria Trecolori, on 47th St., b/t B'way & 8th Avs., a favorite of mine and many other Hounds. Delicious homestyle Italian fare served by a friendly, efficient staff, in a large space with attractive decor and well-spaced tables.

        If you'd like to try barbecue -- very American -- Virgil's, on 44th St., b/t B'way & 6th Av., is a popular choice.

Enjoy your visit to NYC and Bon Appetit!

        1. Ellen's Stardust Diner on Broadway and 51st might be a fun place to go. 50's diner atmosphere, waiters standing on table singing, broad appeal as far as menu goes.
Another idea that is close by is Maison, which is a French bistro on Broadway and 53rd. There is outdoor seating, which would be nice for you too.

          1. Hello Amanda

Roberto Passon has well-priced and tasty Italian fare. Here is a positive lunch review posted recently by a Hound.
