Butchers that sell sweetbreads?

Which butchers in NYC area sell sweetbreads (aka groshitza)? I would have guessed that Le Marais would have had it but it never seems to have it on its menu and the online list of butcher products doesn't include it.

  1. Fischer Bros on 72nd? They seem old school enough.

    1. There used to be a place--I think it was called Gutmans-- in Williamsburg that sold delicious sweetbreads. I think Williamsburg would be a good place to start.

      1. I was Le Marais two weeks ago and I think the butcher did have it - might be worth a call and ask the butcher -

        1. I've seen them at both Glatt Mart and Kosher Marketplace. KM's tend to be frozen since there isn't a lot of demand.

          1. I don't know about butchers that carry them, but I'm pretty sure that Tevere 84 has them on the menu (If not, they have served them several times while I was there, as a special.) They are absolutely delicious, and prepared a little differently than in other places.

I spoke with them and Fischer Bros does carry them from time to time.

Glatt a la Carte in Boro Park makes serious sweet breads as well as breaded veal cutlets. Try it. It's on 18th Avenue and 50 something.
