I think that the best ones are in the Arab neighborhood along Atlantic avenue. I really like the Bedouin Tent (Egyptian). It is certainly not 'high end', but it is reliable and very tasty. Fatoosh used to be great when it was owned by 2 Syrian brothers, who sold the place. Now everything is made by Mexicans, and it is merely good and not great. Not an arab in sight. By the way, in contrast to popular chowhound reports, I absolutely detest Yemen Cafe. It seems bland and a little disgusting to me.

Completely different take on Yemen Cafe for me. Incredibly friendly people serving delicious food. Foul madamas, roasted lamb w/ veg, salta. Lots of hubcap-sized bread and homemade hot sauce. It would be wrong to group it with Waterfalls, which is also excellent, or Fatoosh, which are Syrian rather than Yemenite. It's my personal favorite on Atlantic Ave. But to each his own.

I second Bedouin Tent. We try to go Fri. nights, the only night they serve their chicken ouzi. Fantastic!

Tanoreen gets excellent excellent reviews, it's in bay ridge; this particular blog post had me drooling:

i love waterfalls and fountain cafe.
have been meaning to ask, and this post seems borderline appropriate, if anyone has ever tried tripoli, the lebanese spot on the corner of atlantic and clinton? i keep wanting to try and then stopped by recently and it was so empty inside i got scared off. is it worth a trip?

Tripoli is rather standard middle eastern food which is good but not outstanding. Nicer interior than most, if that's important. Haven't been there in 15 years. No need to.
Check out the 'fountain' at the fountain cafe: it's a showerhead. The food is actually pretty good over there, at the showerhead cafe.

I agree with Yemen Cafe (although it really depends on what you order), Bedouin Tent, and Waterfalls. I would also add Zaytoons to the list. (Not a big fan of Fountain Cafe or Tripoli.)

People on this board seem to like Yemen Cafe. My wife and I ordered quite a few things there between us and none were good, except the fresh bread and the hot sauce. We also got items that seemed to be house specialities (like the bitter and rancid tasting root stew). Maybe one would do better with standard kabobs there, but what we had was really not good. Feh.
