Alexander's in North Park (SD)

Went here for dinner last night...and I had the same reaction as when I went to Old Venice...Not that impressive for the prices. The staff were WONDERFUL, service was great, but food was just average and essentially the same menu as Old Venice.

We had the green lip mussels as a starter- which were chewy and ridiculously hard to remove from their shells, but the broth was delicious.

Entree- I had the Baked Pasta with Spicy Vodka Sauce... Teeny, tiny portion and the sausage was flavorful, but the spicy vodka sauce was neither spicy nor had any flavor to it. I don't need big portions, and I don't mind paying more for a smaller portion, but I need full flavors!

Dessert- Chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. Tasty, but nothing very innovative and about 10x too much whip cream.

Again, I might come here for the staff and some appetizers, but the food is very underwhelming for the prices and in this neighborhood, it has to be tough competition (great food with Zensei, former Linkery spot, Lefty's)

  1. The son owns Alexanders, his folks own Old Venice.

    1. their shrimp appetizer is good, but small portions as well. excellent sangria, good salads, a pretty good pizza, and the back patio is perfect for summer. agree that its a tad too pricey, but it's a nice every now and then neighborhood spot.
