Salut St Paul

This place just opened yesterday and they have a georgous outdoor patio. We heard they could not serve alcohol on the patio. Does anyone know if this is true? If so why would they spent so much time and money on such a risk?

I am not sure that what you heard is accurate.

In St. Paul, places that have tables on the SIDEWALK cannot serve alcohol there without violating a city regulation. D'Amico Bros., a block or two down the street, has to observe this restriction for their sidewalk tables.

I was at Salut when it opened on Monday the 16th and am pretty sure that customers on the patio were being served.

Hmm...I have not heard about this either. I think if it is the patio----then perhaps it is like Minneapolis-that they cannot serve alcohol in glass containers? For example, if you are drinking on the sidewalk tables at Brit's Pub (Mpls side-ordinances could obviously be different), they served my wine in a plastic cup...?

I went by it on Monday and it was packed!

I went last night and had a blackberry mojito on the patio.

Thanx alix I thought that sounded too strange. Blackberry mojito sounds really good.

I've had alcohol in regular glassware on patios in St. Paul: WA Frost and Moscow on the Hill, for example. But the notice posted at D'Amico & Sons cites a city regulation, so it's most likely that the rule applies to public areas. not private outdoor spaces.

Minneapolis has its own rules for public outdoor spots, but Brit's plastic cups might be for convenience rather than compliance. I say that because The Local serves beer in regular glassware at its outdoor tables on Nicollet Mall.

You can serve drinks in glassware on sidewalks and patios in Minneapolis. No one wants to sweep up your broken glass in Minneapolis however, so many places choose to serve drinks in plastic cups.
