Wanted suggestions on where to get a nice and spicy bloody mary.

Surprisingly IMHO, I've enjoyed the spicy bloody mary at the Grand Lux Cafe (very generous on the vodka and love the pickled asparagus garnish in lieu of the old standby celery). Have also enjoyed the rum bloodys at Tiki Ti.

I've always enjoyed the Bloody Mary's at Musso & Franks in Hollywood, though I haven't been there in a while.

Incidentally, in the past couple of weeks I've ordered Bloody Marys at two spots -- one in Santa Barbara; one in Silver Lake. In both cases, the drink was garnished with a green olive, instead of the traditional celery.

The asparague noted above is somebody's idea of being "different"; the two unrelated places serving olives indicate a possible trend.

When did this start, and whom do I have to blame?

If I wanted a bloody olive, I'd have ordered a martini!

I've had wonderful bloody mary's garnished with celery and olive! I just dig olives. Their salty flavor goes well with the old mary. It makes the drink more of an entree. Also, in New Orleans they throw in spicy pickled french (long, green) beans - that's yummy, too.

You might want to give Bandea a try then, they give you four olives on a wooden stake you could use to dispatch a vampire, each on stuffed with something different, (one has a jalapeno, one a little pickled onion, etc.). Corner of Barrington and Wilshire.
