Summer treats in Kansas City

I'm looking for a few places to try that have special desserts or treats. Small, roadside, out-of-the-way places that serve a unique treat- we tried Fresher than Fresh snowcones last week and it was delightful! (handmade, gourmet, all natural snowcones out of a 1950's trailer!) I want to find more interesting places to have that evening summer treat- any suggestions?

  1. Do tell where Fresher than Fresh is? How about You Say Tomato - don't they do snowcones and homemade ice cream?

I wish I could tell you where they'll be next. we found them at the 18th st fashion show last week- i'd advise to watch their website for details.

dig the flavors....lime/mint was a favorite and the espresso mexican sugar cane was out of this world.

I sure wish they had more dates up! All of the flavors sound wonderful!

great - thanks for the blog/website. other than YST's snowcones/homemade ice cream all I can come up with it LuLu's Hawaiin Ice in Ward Parkway Center's parking lot - nothing crazy but it does hit the spot when it's 100 degrees!

      2. Tropicana on SW Boulevard, a few doors down from El Pueblito has some goooood summer treats - we just tried some popsicles...coconut and banana w/cream....amazingly simple and delicious. I saw a lot of fun and yummy looking treats coming out of there. And cheap - $1.59 for a good sized popsicle.

they have multiple locations - the pineapple/ancho chile popsicle and the mamey flavored ice cream are our favs!

        2. We went to Fresher than Fresh on the 2nd Friday, and I absolutely loved it! I got the Flight of Freshness, so I tried the Lemon Prickly Pear, Blackberry Lavendar, Green Tea Pear, Espresso and Cane Sugar, plus the daredevil flavor, Agave Hibiscus. We got a larger one of the Watermelon Basil. I loved every single flavor. I wasn't so sure about the Blackberry Lavendar, because I sometimes feel like lavendar-flavored things taste soapy, I guess just by association, but it ended up being one of my favorites. My husband didn't love it as much as I did, but I would be back in a heartbeat- more for me!
