Best Pulled Pork BBQ Catered!

In anticipation of a double graduation, we tasted more BBQ than I would like to admit. Finally went with Firehouse BBQ out of Kennet Square and a guy from South Philly, Rhapsody in Blue Smoke. Rhapsody won, hands down with 50 out of 60 votes. Fireside was very good but the other place was over the top. Apparently they use only peach wood, make their own rubs, marinades and sauces. Also small butts:) Let me know if you want contact info for your next party. Very, very reasonable. Very nice to work with!
They will also be at the BBQ cook off on August 23rd at Citizens Bank Park) at the Garry Maddox/Neil Stein Barbecue Cook-off.

  1. Is the "south philly guy" the chowposter who posted on your original thread and said he was part of a competitive BBQ team?

      Yes. I decided to take a chance, even though I couldn't taste it before our party. And am so glad I did.

        Thanks for posting that Firehouse was at least very good. I feel at least somewhat vindicated in that I think its pretty decent but few other chowhounders seem to like it!

          No, no! Firhouse was going to be our choice, we loved their 6 sauces on the side (after tasting a lot!) We just had to take a chance on Blue Rhapsody. I'm thinking of them as "boutique" BBQ:) If you love the stuff, try them for a get together..........

            I'll keep them in mind. Too bad they don't open up a business in BBQ-free (well almost) DE.

              Thanks for this info...I am trying to find a roasted pig for my 35th birthday party. Does Blue Rhapsody have a website to check out? Where is he located? I didn't see any of that info in previous post sorry! I just saw an email address. Does anyone know where I can find an uncooked pig to cook myself? Just a thought....I have a friend who has a barrell grill I can use. Thanks for your info.

                I know Cannuli's House of Pork in Phila's Italian MArket has whole roasted pigs - they probably would sell them uncooked as well.

            2. I've had two pulled pork sandwiches from Mabel's in West Chester and they're probably the best I've ever had. And their slaw is great to boot. I was talking to the owner yesterday and she said they also do catering.

              1. Jimmy's BBQ based in Paoli, soon opening a restaurant in Frazer is fantastic! I have been to several events catered by Jim and everything he does is fantastic--pulled pork, ribs, chicken, brisket and he has a good selection of sides.

                1. Thanks to your thread Kathi I tried Rhapsody in Blue Smoke for a party Saturday night. Delicious pulled pork (and rolls provided).

                  The 12 adults and two kids devoured it, no leftovers, with many requests for my "source". There was a tiny bit of extra sauce left and my vegetarian nephew requested it for use on his tofu.

                  The pork was flavorful and tender and as reported before..very, very reasonable. The cook is terrific to work with! Yes, he is with a BBQ team and he also judges BBQ. What an easy way to throw a party and so delicious and so many compliments.

                    So glad to hear it! I am having them again this weekend and am having a hard time keeping my fork out of the pan before tomorrow! This is a party, once a year, for foodies and I got a dispensation to use an outside vendor. I just know I'll win:)
