tamarind

Has anyone been to Tamarind lately? I am doing a late fathers day and want to know if I should take my family there. We are vegetarians so I feel like Indian food is always a good choice.

I am a regular of the 3rd Ave & 94th St location, and I highly recommend it. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, the service friendly, and most importantly, the food is great! The food overall is not as complexly spiced as some Indian food I've had, but everything I've tried is consistently tasty and hearty, making Tamarind is one of my favorite go-to places for eating in or take out. The saag paneer and paneer makhni are two of my favorites.

I believe Girllovesfood is referring to the upscale Tamarind in Flatiron.
Though I am unaware of the uptown Tamarinds, for good reason I am sure, I would venture to say they are not related to the Flatiron location.
The latter is much more upscale in every way.

I ate there last week and really enjoyed it. We had fish and chicken, but everything was really nicely prepared, so I'm sure the vegetarian dishes would be also be excellent.
I like the Tabla Bread Bar also. Vattan is really good too, and is completely vegetarian, although I noticed they were renovating and closed the last time I walked by a month or so ago.

Last time I was there was the fall. I was underwhelmed, seems to have dropped a fair amount from when it first opened. I thought it was very good back then.
I hope it is really good if you decide to go.
