Valverde in Astoria - Closed?

  • 6

I've tried ordering from them for about a week now and no one is picking up. No message saying they are on vacation or anything. Anyone know what's up?

I'm hoping they are just closed for renovations or vacation. Losing this spot will be a real loss for the neighborhood.

  1. I drove by there once again last week, attempting to try it, and it was on Wednesday, not a Tuesday which is when they are supposed to close (this happened to me last time), and the shutters were down, didn't get out of the car, so I'm not sure if there was a note up or not.

I passed by the place tonight and it was still shuttered - but now it features a banner which reads something like: "Coming Soon / K B Galaxy / Hamburgers"

Wow, that is really disappointing. I hope the owners are able to open up again elsewhere. Valverde was a real gem, just in a bad location.
        Thanks for the info.

I had many fine lunches at Valverde. The owners would certainly be welcomed in Jackson Heights.

    2. I just became aware that the owners of Valverde just opened a new restaurant nearby at 3602 Steinway called Pollos 36 (Peruvian). They have a website
www.pollos36.com. The place looks nice with an interesting menu and reasonable prices. I plan to visit soon.

I had the chicken last weekend. It was good, although the breast could have been more moist. The aji sauce is creamy and delicious. The beans and rice were forgettable.
