Opinion on Sylvesters in Verdun
Wondering if anyone has experienced Sylvester's on Hickson in Verdun? For us, its a place to go when we can't decide where else to go ('bout 3 times/year). OK, not a culinary mecca, but you either love or hate the place.
Me? I like it in a warped, 'let's get some craziness" way, 'specially on a Friday after closing.
Thoughts?

Is this place any relation to Aux Délices de L'Ile Maurice, also on Hickson, where I believe the chef's named Sylvester? Or just a coincidence?
Could you tell me more about what kind of food they serve? And can you expand on the "craziness"? Thanks!

Er, um......the last time I was there we were partying with 2 strangers. Sylvester closed / locked the door, allowed us to smoke (even a spliff), offered us gin and tonics. One woman even followed me to the bathroom and tried to give me a bj but I politely declined. Everytime I go there something crazy and hilarious happens.
The food is from the Mauritius islands in the Indian Ocean, so there are Indian, Chinese, Creole and African influences. I usually order the oxtail in curry sauce.

Yep, its Aux Delices de l'ile Maurice.
Craziness? Well SqualorMTL hits a few good points...
You choose a meat or fish, then decide on what cooking style you want for like $9. We were eating one evening when a woman at the next table asked what size the shrimp were. Sylvester was insulted by this and promptly kicked her out.
His ire was up; the next couple came in and were unhappy with their table. After asking to move to another table, Sylvester kicked them out too!
Hilarious.-

Ah, then I have been there several times. Definitely an eclectic place, I've always been treated nicely (never asked what size the shrimp were, though...) and enjoyed the meal, though the portions are so huge even for big-appetite me it's a bit much. After the last time, we had to have a long walk up and down Wellington (now that's an *ahem* interesting street after dark) just to regain enough energy to drive home. Definitely a place to go for a hearty meal once in a while. Not for those who lean towards the upscale side of things, though.
