Lavash Restaurant - Inner Sunset

Was out at Golden Gate Park today and strolled through the Inner Sunset and stumbled upon a place called Lavash on Irving Street, maybe around 7th or 8th. Looked pretty clean, smelled good and met the owner who was very pleasant. Didn't eat there as was not hungry at the time. Curious if anybody has any experience as I do intend to go back soon.

  1. This place is definitely worth a try. As you've said the owner is very welcoming and I would almost go back just for the service/atmosphere.

The food is also very good. For dinner you get a plate of lavash, cucmbers, tomatoes, feta, and fresh herbs (parsley, basil, mint, and oregano). The koobideh (beef/lamb) kebabs were both juicy and gamy, and could almost serve two. The eggplant stew appetizer was mildly disappointing as I was warned that it was very hot, but it actually was only lukewarm except for one hot part of the plate, which makes me think it may have been under a heatlamp for a while as the night was winding down. It tasted OK though. Would love to come back to try some of the other appetizers and meat dishes.

      1. Good news for those of us in the city who are into Persian cooking - I stopped by Lavash today to ask where they get their limu omani (Persian dried limes). It turns out that they are planning on selling Persian ingredients like this out of the same space as the restaurant. As the Armenian/Greek/Lebanese/Indian grocery stores in the city don't really stock much of what's special about Persian cuisine, this is a welcome development!

        1. I must say that I am surprised to not see more recommendations for Lavash, particularly for those who are looking for places to eat near Golden Gate Park. I went this Saturday around 1PM and it was quite empty, though filled up more by the time I left. We ordered the Lavash Special plate for 2, which came with shishlik (lamb chops), joojeh (chicken breast/thigh chunks), koobideh (ground beef/lamb skewer), grilled veggies (Bell peppers, tomatoes, onions), and more than enough rice. We were also provided with a complimentary appetizer of cucumber, tomatoes, feta, mint, and lavash.

I found all the meats to be cooked really well. They all come with more or less the same seasoning/marinade of lime, saffron, onion but it's absolutely delicious. My favorite was the koobideh, which was ever so slightly sweet. The Lavash special is only $29.95, which I think is a great deal. With an appetizer too, I think it could feed 3 easily.

I have to agree. This place serves up some very good food.
Bakhtiari Kabob and Adas Polo are both worth ordering. Portion size is on the high side, but prices are a bit high especially during lunch.
