Arties, Fairfax, VA

We went to Arties in Fairfax, Va on June 12th with a party of 14 for lunch/high school graduation party. The service and food were outstanding. The waiters were excellent and catered to our every need. Our guests ranged in age from 16 to 80 and everyone had a fantastic time. The port. mushroom and crabcake dishes were excellent along with the bread. We will be going back soon.

I think Artie's is at its best when it isn't too busy. When it gets busy, service can be spotty--that we once found out the hard way! Now we go for early dinners and thus have been happy with the service. The waiter we had last time was very friendly and efficient. When we paid the check, he thanked us and shook our hands!

And it does tend to get busy, probably because of all the reasons that Dean listed - consistent good food. It probably doesn't get much new press here because it's not a place you go to for exotic food or special specials. We're more likely to get a report about a place serving carp eyeballs braised in squid ink. <g>

My husband and I really enjoy Artie's. In fact, we just got home from a mid-afternoon meal which will carry us through the rest of the day. My husband enjoyed the rib eye steak and I had the filet mignon. Both were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious with their redskin mashed potatoes and pan sauces.

I like Artie's and am surprised there's not more mention of it here. It serves good food at good prices, with good service and a good atmosphere. And it's consistent.

bbrown305, can you clarify the seating arrangement? Were there actually separate tables, but next to each other? I ask because I wanted to take a party of 9 there recently and was told that we woudl have to do separate tables. That didn't work for us so we found somewhere else.

I will be happy to give Artie's a thumbs up. We always leave there very satisfied. The chopped salad in particular is one of our favorites. Sometimes I just get a double portion as my entree.

I've found Artie's to be consistently good. We were there on June 4th, when the storms put out the power, and we needed a place to take my ex out for a birthday dinner. Artie's had their power back, and the servers were as gracious as always, and the food was great. I had the crab cakes...yum!

If you like the crab cakes there you should try the ones at Coastal Flats. Coastal uses all jumbo lump crabmeat, whereas there is some filler at all the other GAR locations.

Me too. Bob, if you like steak, ask for the chopped salad with steak (from their boathouse steak salad), Doesn't get any netter.

thanks for the report glad to see Arties getting the attention it deserves. it's our local go-to place, and my favorite of the GAR chain.

We eat as a family at Arties occasionally. It's been solid every time, very recommended.

I love Artie's, but how did you manage that with a group that large? Several booths?

They put us at three tables that had the bench seating on one side and chairs on the other. It worked out great.
