Arties, Fairfax, VA
We went to Arties in Fairfax, Va on June 12th with a party of 14 for lunch/high school graduation party. The service and food were outstanding. The waiters were excellent and catered to our every need. Our guests ranged in age from 16 to 80 and everyone had a fantastic time. The port. mushroom and crabcake dishes were excellent along with the bread. We will be going back soon.

I think Artie's is at its best when it isn't too busy. When it gets busy, service can be spotty--that we once found out the hard way! Now we go for early dinners and thus have been happy with the service. The waiter we had last time was very friendly and efficient. When we paid the check, he thanked us and shook our hands!

And it does tend to get busy, probably because of all the reasons that Dean listed - consistent good food. It probably doesn't get much new press here because it's not a place you go to for exotic food or special specials. We're more likely to get a report about a place serving carp eyeballs braised in squid ink. <g>

My husband and I really enjoy Artie's. In fact, we just got home from a mid-afternoon meal which will carry us through the rest of the day. My husband enjoyed the rib eye steak and I had the filet mignon. Both were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious with their redskin mashed potatoes and pan sauces.

I like Artie's and am surprised there's not more mention of it here. It serves good food at good prices, with good service and a good atmosphere. And it's consistent.

re: dpan
bbrown305, can you clarify the seating arrangement? Were there actually separate tables, but next to each other? I ask because I wanted to take a party of 9 there recently and was told that we woudl have to do separate tables. That didn't work for us so we found somewhere else.

I've found Artie's to be consistently good. We were there on June 4th, when the storms put out the power, and we needed a place to take my ex out for a birthday dinner. Artie's had their power back, and the servers were as gracious as always, and the food was great. I had the crab cakes...yum!
