Had dinner at the Ragin Cajun last night with 4 other couples. The restaurant is located on Highway 35, just south of 11th Avenue in Belmar in a former single family house. You might drive by it a couple of times since it only has a very small (unlit) sign in the front yard. It is next to a convenience store (not sure if it is 7/11 or something else). We were set up in the "back room" due to the size of our party. A singer was performing in the front room. The place is a little funky with a peaceful vibe....very laid back....it was as if you were having a dinner party in your house. The owner took our orders and provided some great conversation.
I had the Cajun Jumbo Shrimp with rice/beans and broccoli....it was excellent. The "sauce" the shrimps were in was spicy but not overpowering.....the shrimps (5 huge) were cooked to perfection. The beans and rice were very nice and the broccoli was exceptionally tasty.
Don't think anyone had the same entree as anyone else and many folks took the specials. In general everyone was satisfied with their meal...some more than others. With only a couple of desserts, no appys, 10 entrees, BYOB the bill including tip came to $55 per couple.
Definately will go back.
