How is Angelica Kitchen in E. Village?
I'm not a vegetarian, but I'm always interested in trying vegetarian dishes and the menu at Angelica Kitchen looks intriguing. I haven't heard much about it on this board, though. Is it a good place to check out? What's good to order if so?

Many people feel good when they eat organic stuff, and the place can leave you feeling healthy. I was once on such a diet, and I went there every day for 2 years. HOWEVER, the food does not taste very good. It utilizes really disgusting ingedients like tofu 'cheese' which would make any self-respecting frenchman barf.

I live a block away and overall am not a fan. I think it's expensive and for the most part bland. With that said, I've been going to the take out counter more recently as the staff seems less grumpy and some of the specials are interesting ... but I would never make a special trip.
Gobo's menu and flavors are much more interesting I think. And Souen is a better done version of AK if simple veg. is what you'd like.
(Do note: a) I don't eat much seitan etc. so can't comment on that type of dish b) I don't like Momofuku also right in the area and everyone else raves about it)

re: chinaplate
Well, I agree actually that Souen is not exciting. But when I want a veggie meal that is just get good fresh veggies (big salads, steamed greens w/ carrot ginger dressing) I am much happier with their portion sizes and presentation.
If I was going for exciting veggie I would say Gobo or Counter

I went there years ago, and found it disappointing--overpriced for underflavored food that seemed premade and was served cold. Went back for the first time a couple months ago, and really really enjoyed it. Food was flavorful, menu had loads of appealing options, the space was warm and smelled of good food, and the lesbian dating scene made for good people watching. It's not extraordinary by any means, and I prefer Old Devil Moon and Kate's Joint for vegetarian food in the neighborhood, but I thought it was pretty solid.
