Maybe your date already took place, but Ferdinando's on Union is atmospheric time-warp Italian, Petite Crevette (as mentioned) has great seafood, Alma is upscale Mexican with some lovely roof seating (reservations a must on weekends). Not much else is standout. unless you cross the BQE What's "Goods"? And btw, that stretch of Columbia Street is NOT near the main drag of Red Hook on Van Brunt--closer to Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens.

wait, the corndogs that they sell at Freebird aren't good enough? :)

My favorite place in the area is Petite Crevette on Hicks St for great seafood.

I think there is an French/African place on Union between Columbus and Hicks. Not sure how it is or even what it's called but it sounded interesting.

it's called Korhogu 126 (126 Union). The food has been very tasty every time I've been there.
