Upstairs or Rialto

Had planned on an anniversary dinner at Salts only to find out they are closed this weekend to attend a Food/Wine event in CO. Opinions about which is better Upstairs or Rialto. Couldn't get reservations for Craigie Street which I would prefer. Appreciate feedback on preferences.

  1. I know it's late, but for future reference, I'd recommend Rialto. I've never had a good experience at Upstairs, and I've been there a number of times (for work, not my choice)... including a "medium rare" lunch burger (I was really in the mood for one) that was positively bleu, accompanied by a soggy salad. Not cool.

On the other hand, we've never had a bad meal at Rialto- everything we've enjoyed there has been superbly prepared and really delicious. Chef Adams even comes out to check on tables, and once she very sweetly obliged when we asked her how she'd prepared the blackened duck- she took a whole five minutes to talk us through it. That kind of thing wins a LOT of points with me!

    1. Huh - I've had the exact opposite experience. I've eaten at Rialto twice and both times found the food to be meh especially considering the price. Conversely I eat at Upstairs about once a quarter (it's a favorite "nice" lunch place for a friend and me) and always enjoy our experience. In fact I've had that same burger and had it perfectly prepared. I am sorry to hear that's not always the case. I also loved their grilled cheese on brioche and tomato soup, and had a roast chicken (this was a good year ago) that was delectable.
