Dress when buying a gift cert from nice restaurant

I'm going to a nice restaurant to pick up a gift certificate, earlier than dinner about 4pm. It's a coat and tie restaurant. Does dress matter in that case? I don't mean I'll show up slovenly but a pair of capris and a nice shirt? I don't want to dress up just to get a gift certificate. Thanks.

Most nice places would probably also be willing to do this over the phone and mail the GC to you. Otherwise, so long as you're not wearing some kind of extremely offensive t-shirt or anything, don't stress about it.

You don't need to "dress up" and, in case you're wondering, you don't have to tip either, although I'm sure there are some here that would.

Thanks--while it is hot out, naked isn't an option.;-) The maitre d' station butts up to the bar and the restaurant, out in the open which was my concern. But, since it's early, at most, there might be people at the bar but, oh well. Now I have to figure out how to deal w/ valet parking since I'll only be a minute.

when you pull up ask the valet guys - I'm sure you're not the first to run in for a GC. :) they may have a spot set aside or one they can open up nearby for you.

Usually you can get a GC just by asking the maitre d', you may not even set foot in the dining room. And at 4 PM I doubt they would mind anyway.

You're not eating there. For a gift certificate your money spends the same whether dressed in couture or naked.
