I sited these at the Civic Center Farmer's Market today: http://www.chezpei.com/uploaded_images/DSCN8472-761692.JPG

There was only one basket left ($3) and the lady said they are rare because they are hard to grow. Apparently they originate from Malaysia, and have a flavor similar to the normal gray oyster mushrooms, but more pungent. I'm looking forward to eating them, but I am already enjoying the stinky mushroom smell--ok, some might liken it to the smell of a wet dog, but you mushroom lovers know what I mean.

Are these more common than I know? I have never seen these before in my life, much less been served them in a restaurant. Perhaps other hounds know more about Bay Area availability of these beautiful pink mushrooms?

Pretty picture. I think they are the same mushrooms I bought at Far West Fungi at Ferry Plaza last summer. The color fades a little when fried. I should ask next time if there is a way to preserve the color.
