Dinner near USC
I am going to an event at USC on a Friday night in July and want to have an early dinner beforehand. Any recommendations for anything other than Sushi or Thai?
How about Italian, Mexican or any kind of standard or new American fare?? Guess we could go somewhere downtown. feedback on Pacific Dining Car?

Chichen Itza for good Yucatecan-style Mexican cuisine. They have a very casual stand near USC at Mercado La Paloma which closes early in the evening, however their location on 6th St is a more formal sit-down establishment open later

Italian - Colori Kitchen in Downtown. Probably 10 mins from USC, cheap, BYOW, excellent
Mexican - La Barca would be the local spot, but I've never been
New American - Maybe 29th street cafe if you want to stay local, doubt their food is that good though.
Basically, you're going to be going downtown to eat.

In terms of Mexican, there's La Taquiza on Fig and 30th. Very casual atmosphere.
Like ns1 says, I think you'll be better served downtown. Places near USC like Grinder, Mikoshi, or any of the myriad fast food places aren't very good. I like Chano's for a Mexican stand fix, but I don't know if I'd eat if I had to be alert immediately afterward.
For downtown, I'll suggest Aloha Cafe on 2nd and Alameda just because I love Hawaiian food. There's tons of other local suggestions on this board, natch.
