Have you been? What do you think? What do you recommend and what should we steer clear of?

Thank you!

  1. We really like La Canela - the food is good and it's an attractive restaurant as well. It can get quite loud as the evening wears on, so if that bothers you, I'd recommend going earlier rather than later. Turns out that the potato is more or less the national food of Peru, so you will find it in many forms on the menu -- mostly all good. I like their ceviche and chicken dishes. My favorite menu item is their signature drink: the pisco sour. It's a must. Desserts are nothing special -- I'd skip dessert and just have another pisco!

    1. The original, Flor de la Canela in Gaithersburg, is excellent. I've heard that La Canela is also good, but not as good as the original.

      1. Lovely! We've enjoyed the Gburg one for years, and went to try the new one a couple weeks ago. The food was great (I had lomo saltado, I forget what my husband had, but it was also delish) and pisco sours. We sat at a little mezzanine level with a little bar and a very friendly woman bartender. It was so nice! In fact, all the staff were exceedingly friendly and cheerful and efficient. Definite thumbs up!

        1. Just wanted to report that our dinner was amazing! I had the pisco sour which was truly delightful (husband husband had the straight pisco).

We started off with the crab-stuffed yuca and squid tubes in a delicate squid. Both were good but the yuca was best.

Husband had he Lomo Saltado and I had the shrimp with lentils and rice. Again, both were outstanding but my husband's dish was the winner.

We both want to go back to explore more dishes. This is the the place to go in Rockville Town Square.

I should mention that one customer was making a stink about service and food. I found *him* the only unpleasant aspect of the experience. So things were a little slow? Relax and enjoy your pisco sour!

I'm glad you liked it! Interesting about they person complaining about service. I thought the service was fantastic and friendly. We went there for an early dinner before a show, and I told the server when he arrived at our table that we had to be out by a certain time. He did a great job, everything came quickly and we had plenty of time to make our show.

I am, too! I feel like we've got a real "find" on our hands.

I was happy with the service, too. I was really grilling the waitress about the menu and she was extremely helpful in guiding me through it!
